The days when used to sit huddled around in a cave, food wasn't provided on a daily basis. We would often spend days wandering around in search of food. What this meant was that our meals were always a bit thin on the ground. To help us survive this, our bodies would slow down our metabolisms to conserve calories and energy.

Many weight loss programs advocate cutting large amounts of calories from your diet. This isn't beneficial to your attempts at weight loss. When you begin to cut out large amounts of calories, your body will go into starvation mode. This will not have a positive effect.

This is why some people who are having problems with their weight often say that they don't really eat that much food. This is the cause of the problem.

Commonly we will eat around 3 times a day. Only a certain amount of food can be used by your body at one sitting. By eating three large meals your body will have a tendency to store more calories. If the time between each meal is over 7 hours, the body will probably have kicked into starvation mode.

The answer is to this is to spread your daily calories by eating five or six smaller meals during the day. This achieves two things. First there will be no extra calories for your body to hang onto. Secondly your metabolism will be running far more effectively due to the fact that it is getting calories on a regular basis. Just this small change will see you losing some weight.

No doubt thatt you have been told this a lot off times but when you avoid eating breakfast, you are hindering weight loss. Keep in mind that no food has enetered your body since the night before. When you wake up your body will need food. If it doesn't get what it wants it will take steps to go into a state of starvation mode.

So the trick is not to cut large amounts of calories out of your daily diet. Although some weight will probably be lost, it will not be continous. Eat small, eat frequently, and always have something for breakfast if you want to keep away from starvation mode and lose weight successfully
